The Storm Cone traces the site of Chalkwell Park’s lost bandstand, which was situated in the Park’s meadow/carnival field, near the pond. Originally part of the Pier Hill Buildings in Southend-on-Sea, the bandstand was moved to Chalkwell Park shortly before the outbreak of WWI in 1914. It was only after the War that the bandstand was put to use for performances in the park. Despite its immense popularity, the bandstand was dismantled around the time of WWII.
